A different kind of soap

September 27, 2011

In October last year (I actually can't believe it was so long ago) I received a very generous delivery from a bath and body cosmetics company called Stenders. There were a couple of soaps in the package and it's only recently that I've got round to using the one on the left.

It was actually my Mum who used this initially and she told me to write a blogpost on it as it's such a fantastic soap- and is so innovative! I've not seen anything like it before.

The soap is called the Grapefruit-Quince Loofah Soap which kind of gives away the concept but anyway... at first it's just like using a normal soap, however as you use it more and more the loofah hidden inside has more of an effect and you can feel it exfoliating your skin as you use the soap. It makes the soap work harder to cleanse your skin and seems to help it lather too. Even though it is now running out we've been just using it to exfoliate on its own. Here is a photo of it so you get the idea...

Another thing to mention is the scent- it smells divine and really lingers on the skin. Both my Mum and I have been seriously impressed by this pretty unknown brand- I will definitely be ordering more goodies from their site, especially as I've just clocked their palette of soap samples which you can order free and just pay for delivery.

September Boudoir Privé Box

September 26, 2011
If you are a beauty blogger it will have been literally impossible not to have heard of Glossy Box and Boudoir Privé. Since the launch of these two concepts there have been so many posts about them- and to be fair, they are something quite special.

For the benefit of anyone who hasn't heard of them, the idea is that you subscribe and pay a set amount each month (Boudoir Privé- £10 with free p&p, Glossy Box- £12.95 including p&p) and are sent a beauty box filled with 5-6 deluxe sized samples. You don't know what you will be receiving and so it's exciting to receive a parcel every month with some beauty products to try.

I have read the Glossy Box and Boudoir Privé posts with interest but have not signed up to either service as of yet. From seeing a few comparison posts it seems like Glossy Box include larger samples (usually there is one full sized product) but the brands aren't as high end, whereas Boudoir Privé seem to include more exclusive and luxury brands that you haven't heard of.

This month I was asked if I wanted to give the Boudoir Privé box a try and I couldn't say no. Here is what I received...

The box comes beautifully packaged and feels very luxurious. I have actually kept the box and am using it store my foundations as it's so nice!

The box arrives with a leaflet explaining what each product is, how much it would cost full size and how to use it.

I received:

Tropic Skincare Body Smooth (this is the company founded by Susan Ma from The Apprentice- I was always curious to see what her beauty company was like!)

Colbert MD Nourish Eye Cream

Cargo Cosmetics Eye Pencil

Zoya Nail Polish

Macadamia Hair Repair

Not pictured: Agent Provocateur L'Agent sample and a Mai Couture Blot & Bronze sheet.

I loved receiving the box and the products being a surprise- everyone loves a parcel! My favourite products from the box are the Zoya Nail Polish as I adore the colour and the Colbert MD Nourish Eye Cream which full size would cost £90 so something I would never usually try. I'm also excited to try the Macadamia Hair Repair.

I did get the products out and wonder where to put them- I really don't need any more samples to try really. However this is such fun that it is extremely tempting to subscribe!

Boots 17 Autumn Collection

September 25, 2011
It's that time of the year when all of the Autumn collections start showing their faces. I cannot believe that it's September already!

Boots 17 launched their new range for Autumn on the 7th September which includes three eyeshadow trios (£5.49 each) and three nail polishes (£2.99), all based on colours from the Autumn/Winter catwalks. I'm a big fan of the eyeshadow trios- when I was 16 and not as obsessed with make-up I used a Boots No.7 trio every day for months. It was all I needed.

Smouldering and Sultry - the colours in the 'Vengeance' trio were inspired by the statement eyes seen at Dior, Giles and Jeremy Scott. Aubergines and plums are most definitely autumnal colours and create a smoky eye a little different to the usual black or brown shades.

Molten metallic - this was one of the key trends at the Autumn/Winter show, notably at D&G and Roberto Cavalli. The 'Enraged' trio can easily be worn for a daytime look as the shades are subtle and they can also be built up to a more dramatic evening style. As you can see this is the trio I've favoured (by the big finger print!).

Precious jewels - many different shades of green were seen on the catwalk at the A/W shows with lots of metallic teals and jades. Oscar de la Renta and Temperley created captivating and intense eyes which you can recreate with the 'Broken Hearted' trio.

Each smoky eye trio has its very own accompanying Fast Finish nail polish which completes the Boots 17 Autumn Collection. They are absolutely gorgeous metallic shades which compliment each look, but look just as fantastic on their own.

From l-r: Fury, Revenge and Sulk.

The range is available in Boots stores and also online at

Clemence Poesy in Gossip Girl

September 19, 2011
I used to love Gossip Girl and watched it without fail, until a number of other TV shows came along and stole my attentions away from it (Dexter, Mad Men, 24...). I just didn't have enough time to fit it in! However I've gone from a 20 minute commute to a rather longer 1 hour 30 minute one (door to door) and so have filled my iPhone with episodes of Gossip Girl Season 4. I have been sucked right back into the glamour, fashion and beautiful boys of Gossip Girl.

I love seeing what all of the characters wear, but I've been particularly in love with Eva, played by Clemence Poesy who has starred in a few episodes in this series. Here are some photos from the episodes- with lots of Chuck thrown in for good measure. The outfit in the first photo is my ultimate favourite outfit of hers.

You know you love me,
Gossip Girl
(couldn't resist!)

My current mascaras

September 18, 2011
I usually have just one mascara on the go, but somehow I seem to have five that I have opened and so am trying to use them equally before they all dry up! I thought it was a good opportunity to share these and show how they look on my lashes- a bit of a comparison if you will. Saying that, most of the photos of my lashes look very similar so they seem to be just as good as each other!

MUFE Smoky Lash

This was my favourite out of the four mascaras, but after comparing the photos of my eyelashes I actually prefer the effect of the L'Oreal Lash Architect. Nevertheless this does everything that I want to my lashes- lengthens and volumises without being clumpy. It is also my favourite brush of the lot.

L'Oreal Lash Architect

I haven't been using this mascara very much but after seeing the photo below I have realised how fab it is! Was quite amazed at how much it lengthened my eyelashes. I think that L'Oreal have the best range of mascaras- I adore the L'Oreal Voluminous and the Million Lashes (see below).

Collection 2000 Big Fake Mascara

This mascara has had lots of hype on blogs and YouTube which is why I decided to buy it (a common theme amongst the products I purchase! Love a recommendation and some hype). The brush is massive- a bit too big for my liking as I seem to get mascara smudges everywhere when I use it. It also doesn't make my lashes big enough for my liking so is not one of my favourites really. Still, it does the job and I love the packaging.

♥ L'Oreal Volume Million Lashes

My favourite feature of this mascara is the bendy wand. It allows you to build up lots of volume and really works with your eyelashes.

♥ Rimmel 100% Waterproof

I bought this especially for my holiday in July as I was lacking a waterproof mascara. It was a great waterproof mascara- a reasonable price and did the job.

Have you tried any of these mascaras? What is your current favourite?

Charlie hanging out with his crew- he loves sitting by the window and looking out of it. He seems to know when we'll be coming home and will wait around that time. One day we saw that he'd brought his toy friends up to the windowsill with him- so cute!

The Shard in London. Chris and I were in London last weekend and I took this from London Bridge station. We have a few in-jokes at home about this as every time it appeared on The Apprentice Chris would point out 'The Shard'!

Gorgeous leaving flowers from work. They smell absolutely amazing and are so beautiful. It was my last day on Friday.

♥ Chris and my cousin's little kitten. She has two cats and one has had 3 kittens- they are so teeny tiny and fluffy! Chris was all ready to take one home.

My leaving card from work. Got some lovely messages from everyone. I always keep things like this to look back on.

♥ Taken on the train to my new job in London. I am now doing a long commute (I know others do longer though!) but Chris and I come back on the train together, and I've got Gossip Girl on my iPhone to watch which has been brilliant.

August Favourites: My Favourite Three

September 12, 2011
A bit delayed but better late than never (which seemed to have happened last month- oops!). It was hard to choose my three favourite products this month as I've been loving lots- was close to including the MUFE Smoky Lash but I've posted a rave review on it recently so thought I'd choose other products to write about.

Liz Earle Spot-On - this little roll on spot treatment from Liz Earle is brilliant. It's a rescue treatment for blemishes, bites and cuts and ingredients include essential oils such as lavender and tea-tree- you can definitely smell the tea-tree! I've been using this on any blemishes at night and by the morning they are so much better. Love it!

Elemis Melting Cleansing Gel - I dug this out from my basket of skincare goods recently after completely forgetting about it. Since then I've been alternating between this and the Cleanse & Polish. This is a really lovely cleanser which I use after removing my make-up with the MAC Cleanse Off Oil. I massage the gel into my face and then massage it in with a little water before rinsing off- it turns into a milky texture when you add water. It has a gorgeous light lemon scent too which I adore. Sadly I'm nearing the end of my tube!

YSL Touche Eclat - the YSL Touch Eclat is one of those renown products that features in magazines regularly and is always talked about. I was so excited to use it in the YSL beauty challenge and have been using it every day without fail since receiving it. In my opinion the hype is justified. I don't suffer from bad under eye circles so this is ideal for me- it brightens my skin perfectly and comes in beautiful packaging.

Redfoot folding shoes

September 05, 2011
I love receiving my Groupon emails everyday, although feel I may have overdone it with signing up to the London, Surrey and also the nationwide deal emails. Oh well- I will never miss a deal!

Over the past few months I have seen a few deals on the folding shoes from Redfoot. And everytime I saw a deal, I kept meaning to buy it but everytime I forgot. Apart from the last deal I saw where I purchased it as soon as I saw it and bought a pair of the Chelsea Black Shoe folding shoes for £19.99 (and £5 p&p) when they should have been £45. There were plenty of others to choose from but I thought simple black was the best bet as it'll go with most outfits.

I have wanted a pair of folding shoes for quite a while. I'll be honest, I'm no good in heels. I would love to wear high heels everyday but I just couldn't. I look silly walking in them and they hurt my feet. For a night out I do wear heels but by 2am by feet are aching and I always have to take a pair of ballet pumps in my bag to change into.

This is why fold-up shoes are perfect! They take up so much less room and also come in a dinky little bag so you don't have shoes sticking out of your bag. Fab!
