Free 5ml YSL Le Teint Foundation sample

June 28, 2012

The YSL Le Teint Touche Éclat Foundation is probably one of the most eagerly awaited products to hit the beauty counters with YSL describing it as: "A bold, unique formula to target shadowy areas and define contours. A magic light infused within a weightless fluid. A texture that has no mask-like effect. A formula free of opaque powders that evens the complexion and erases imperfections, enhancing the face’s natural features."

At £28 it is not cheap but I've found (well, the Martin Money Tips weekly email alerted me) a great deal where you can get a free 5ml sample of the foundation. Simply 'Like' the YSL Facebook page, print the voucher and take it to your nearest YSL counter.

YSL will find the right match for your skin and you will be given a free 5ml glass bottle. Brilliant!

Urban Outfitters Glitter Contact Lense Case

June 26, 2012

I was browsing the Urban Outfitters sale and this little gem caught my eye. I'm loving a bit of sparkle at the moment (my iPhone cover is still going strong) and although I tried to resist it, this ended up coming home with me.

It's quite funny actually as I only wear disposable contacts at the moment and so have no need for this, however I am looking to start wearing 2 weekly or monthly lenses. When I do, I will have the perfect accessory in tow! I love this case- it only cost £5 and includes a twin screw top holder to hold your lenses and a little mirror.

The twin screw top holder is removable so while I wait to get my lenses I'm tempted to use it in as a handy box to carry something (yet to be decided) in my bag.

You can buy this glittery contact lense case on the Urban Outfitters website here.

Rob Ryan

June 24, 2012

It was my colleague's birthday last week and she told me that her boyfriend had gotten her a Rob Ryan print (pictured above). I hadn't heard of him before but when I googled his work I recognised it straight away from a Stylist magazine cover. I have been looking at all of his work and I absolutely love it- especially the cute words that come on the pictures- the 'Can we? Shall we?...' poem above is lovely! I have included a couple of my favourites below but I highly recommend that you check out his website - I quite fancy one of the mugs.

Review: CoverGirl LashBlast Volume Mascara

June 21, 2012

CoverGirl LashBlast Volume Blasting Mascara

My brother bought this for me from the US so not sure of the RRP- it seems to retail for approx $7 on US websites

What does it claim to do?

"Get a blast of lush, volumized lashes! LashBlast's patented volume-boosting formula and patent-pending brush are designed to max out each and every lash, leaving you with the ultimate big-lash look." - CoverGirl website

What do I think?

My brother went to the US for a couple of months and (on my request) bought me the CoverGirl LashBlast Volume and also the LashBlast Fusion which I am yet to try and will make sure to review. I have heard so many good things about the famous LashBlast mascara- I know that it is basically the same as the MaxFactor False Lash Effect mascara which I love, and so was keen to try it.

I received this in the Black Brown shade and am really impressed. As with all mascaras the consistency improved after a few uses and at the moment it is my mascara I go to use every day. The colour is lovely and glossy and you can easily build up the coats for a really dramatic effect. This mascara is lengthening, voluminising and not clumpy- thumbs up from me!

After one coat

After two coats

Would I re-purchase?

Yes! When I go to Florida next year I plan to stock up on this

L'Oreal Paris Miss Candy Collection

June 18, 2012
On Thursday I was introduced to the new L'Oreal Paris Miss Candy Collection as a lovely bag of make-up treats were delivered to me at work, accompanied by some delicious pick n' mix sweet treats including my favourites- shrimps and bananas!

The new Miss Candy Collection is a mouth-watering, sugar sweet selection of swirls, sparkles and shimmering shades.

Miss Candy Glam Shine

L'Oreal Paris has embellished their Glam Shine Lip Gloss with a delicious mix of rainbow colours. The gloss blends two contrasting colours to give fantastic shine in a range of tutti-fruity tones for £7.65.

From l-r shades are: Tart Lollipop 703; Miss Candy 709; Pink Treat 710; Nude BonBon 711; Dolce Pralina 712

Miss Candy Color Infallible

These new Color Infallible shades mix intense pigments to treat the eyes to two lusciously contrasting colours. The shadows are waterproof (so hopefully not prone to that horrible creasing) and can be layered to create a really intense colour. I can see myself wearing the Sassy Chamallow shade (far left) but am not too sure whether the other two are colours I would wear very often. Nevertheless these are beautiful eyeshadows with great pigmentation. RRP is £6.99.

From l-r shades are: Sassy Chamallow 32; Naughty Strawberry 36; Innocent Turquoise 31

Miss Candy Color Riche Nail

Indulge your candy cravings and adorn your nails with the Miss Candy Collection. These excite me the most out of the range as I love every single colour and can't wait to get using these- especially the Dating Coral 305 and Marie Antoinette 202 shades. The nail polish uses integrated gel technology to ensure that colour glides on easier than ever and provides smooth, even coverage. Shades Sassy Pink 213 and Innocent Turquoise 616 are also completely new colours. RRP is £4.99.

From l-r shades are: Opera Ballerina 101; Marie Antoinette 202; Sassy Pink 213; Spicy Orange 304; Dating Coral 305; French Riviera 601; Innocent Turquoise 616

Does anything from the Miss Candy Collection take your fancy?

May Favourites: My Top Three

June 11, 2012
I don't think I have done a 'favourites' post since February. Crazy! I know it is almost the middle of June but here are my three favourite products from May.

♥ Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua - I bought this much raved about foundation at the start of May and at first I was a bit unsure as felt I had been matched to slightly the wrong shade. Luckily the sun decided to come out for a good few days (come out and play again sun!) and so I got some colour on my face, meaning that the foundation was a far better match. I absolutely love the look of this foundation on my skin- it leaves it glowy and lasts all day. I have been applying it with a foundation brush which leaves a lovely finish. I am pleased that this lives up to the hype!

♥ Liz Earle Perfect Fix Concealer - I have actually just posted a review of the new Liz Earle concealer which can you read here, so I won't go on about it. In a nutshell- this is my favourite concealer at the moment and I am loving it!

♥ Revlon Matte Lipstick in Pink Pout - this lipstick came out a few weeks ago when we were enjoying the heatwave that hit the UK. It's a very wearable pink which looks fab when you have a bit of a tan. The matte effect can mean that it's slightly drying but wearing it with a dab of lip balm helps to fix this issue. I also like how it's a really buildable pink- you can wear a light layer and it can look quite subtle, or if you fancy a really strong pink it's easy to create that look.

Review: Liz Earle Perfect Fix Concealer

June 09, 2012

Liz Earle Perfect Fix Concealer*

£13.50 - Liz Earle website

What does it claim to do?

"No make up bag should be without our highly-pigmented, lightweight concealer to disguise blemishes, minor skin imperfections and dark circles. Our creamy formula blends easily, without dragging the delicate under-eye area. Enriched with a derivative of natural source vitamin E." - Liz Earle

What do I think?

In May I received three products from the new Liz Earle make-up collection. The Perfect Fix concealer is the one that has impressed me the most and I have been using it every day. First of all, I love the packaging. Elegant, sleek, simple and very reflective of the Liz Earle brand. For a price point of almost £14 you expect beautiful packaging and this definitely meets my expectations- although does tend to get a bit grubby when thrown into a make-up bag!

The concealer comes in seven shades and mine is in Fair-02 which is a perfect match. The consistency is lovely and creamy and applies really easily, especially to the under-eye area. Coverage is great too and it seems to be a good heavy duty concealer. I have been applying this straight from the stick to my under-eyes and simply blending with my fingers- although for smaller blemishes I have used a small concealer brush to apply more precisely. I prefer to use this concealer for under-eye circles and areas of redness than for smaller blemishes as find that my more liquid concealers like the Collection 2000 Lasting Perfection apply more easily on these.

I am really enjoying using the Perfect Fix. It is a nice dinky size so is easy to pop into my make-up bag for when I'm away from home and is a pleasure to apply. The price is quite a bit higher than your usual high street make-up but I feel that Liz Earle justify the cost and make it worthwhile.

Would I re-purchase?

Yes- really like this.

New ghd Air Professional Hairdryer

June 07, 2012

Katy Perry in an interpretation of The Little Mermaid - shot by David LaChapelle

I was very excited to read about the latest product release from ghd. My ghd hair straighteners have been my absolute favourite styling tool since I bought them a number of years ago - it was probably the best £100 I've ever spent and I still love how quickly they can transform my hair.

The latest offering from ghd is their ghd Air- a Professional Hairdryer with a 2100 Watt motor and advanced ionic technology. The hairdryer claims to deliver exceptionally fast drying and styling while helping to reduce frizz, leaving hair soft and silky.

ghd CEO Paul Stoneham says "We're extremely proud to be launching ghd air especially in our 10th anniversary year. An incredible amount of research, development and testing has gone into producing such a high caliber, salon strength hairdryer. ghd air will leave consumers literally blown away".

The ghd Air costs £99 and you can find out more on the ghd website. If you have tried this then I would love to know your thoughts to see if it is as good as I imagine.

A Selection of Shades

June 03, 2012

The weather in the UK has been beautiful recently and has made me all excited for summer. It has taken a turn for the worse over the last few days but I'm hoping this is just a blip (unlikely but humour me!) and that summer will be back in full force soon.

SmartBuyGlasses UK is a fantastic website which sells a huge range of Designer Sunglasses (aswell as normal Designer Glasses, Contact Lenses, Prescription Lenses and Sports Sunglasses). They offer over 100 designer labels to choose from and pride themselves on having unbeatable prices. My favourite feature has to be their 3D TryON service where you can upload a photo of yourself and see what you'd look like wearing your chosen pair (just a note- this isn't available on all sunglasses).

I decided to look through the site and put together a gallery of some of my favourite pairs. From top left-clockwise these are:

♥ Prada PR01OS £128 - Prada Sunglasses
♥ Jimmy Choo Kelli Strass £186.95 - Jimmy Choo Sunglasses
♥ Ray Ban RB3044 Aviator £85.95 - Ray Ban Sunglasses
♥ Gucci GG 3157/S £105.95 - Gucci Sunglasses
♥  D&G DD8075 £77.95 - D&G Sunglasses

The Queensbury

June 01, 2012

Last night, Chris and I spent a lovely few hours dining at The Queensbury- a British Gastropub based in Willesden Green. After being given some Groupon vouchers* to use as I desired, I decided to go for a deal from The Queensbury which gave me a two course meal with wine for two for £24 (so up to 61% off depending on the meals you went for).

I have used the deals website, Groupon a number of times- notably for their hair offers, however sometimes I look at the deals with scepticism as I wonder why the hairdresser/restaurant/dentist needs to offer such a massive discount on their 'goods'. Luckily I have never been let down and the offers are fantastic for bringing in custom. The Queensbury was an absolute delight and Chris and I were so impressed with the service and the warm way in which we were treated. The waiters were attentive yet not overbearing and the Head Chef was fantastic.

And because everyone likes to look at delicious pictures of food I will show you what I indulged in, instagram style. And a sneaky picture of Chris engrossed in the menu.

Starter - Seared Scallops with Salsa

Main - Ribeye steak with hand-cut chips and a grilled mushroom

Dessert - Chocolate Tarte with Ice Cream
