Dr Jart+ Beauty Balm Creams

August 23, 2012
I am a big fan of the BB Creams that have invaded the cosmetic counters this year although the ones I have tried (17 & Garnier Miracle Skin Perfector) are definitely more of a tinted moisturiser formulation.  I'm not sure how much you know about BB creams (probably a lot if you are a regular beauty blog reader!) but the Blemish Balm was originally formulated in Germany by Dr. Christine Schrammek in the 1950s. It was initially created to protect skin after laser procedures and surgery. Since then BB creams have mainly been sold in East and Southeast Asia and have been developed to be a moisturiser, primer, foundation and suncream all in one handy bottle.

The BB creams by Dr Jart have been the ones I have been most looking forward to trying as they hail from Asia and are one of Asia's leading skincare brands. I was eager to try one of the Dr Jart BB Creams to get a taste of the original formula.

I have been wearing the Dr Jart+ Water Fuse Beauty Balm Cream* for the past week and the first difference I noticed was that it only comes in one shade. The second thing I noticed was that it had a really unusual consistency which is hard to describe. I have been using my fingers to apply it and it has an almost water-y consistency (probably why it's called Water Fuse!). It takes a bit of time to properly blend in as you really have to work it into the skin but it feels gorgeous as you apply- it's almost cooling and feels moisturising.

I have been impressed with this BB cream. I wouldn't say it amazed me but it has been perfect for me in the warm weather we've had lately- especially as it has SPF25. I've also noticed I've had to use less of my other face products like concealer and my YSL Touche Eclat. I haven't been wearing a setting powder with it either. For £18 it is on the pricier side but I'd definitely recommend if you want to try a really good quality BB Cream.

There are a number of the Dr Jart BB Creams available from Boots (information taken from the Boots website):

Dr Jart+ Premium Beauty Balm SPF40 - Provides high SPF40 protection with anti-oxidents. A slightly glossy, low coverage cream which helps fight ageing. Particularly suitable for those over 30.

Dr Jart+ Platinum Beauty Balm SPF30 - Provides high coverage in a light application. The moisturising lotion is particularly suitable for those in their 30s.

Dr Jart+ Regenerating Beauty Balm SPF30 - Provides strong coverage for redness and spots which won't rub off as easily as traditional cosmetics. Skin will look brighter, whilst still suitable for problem and sensitive skin. Particularly suitable for those between 20 and 35.

Dr Jart+ Water Fuse Beauty Balm SPF25 - ideal for those aged 20-35s with a soft application which gives natural, fresh looking skin and controls sebum production.
