Balmi SPF 15 Lip Balm

July 30, 2012

In August, Boots stores will be launching Balmi; a new lip balm for £4.99 from the sister brand of 'I Love...Cosmetics'. As soon as I saw the press release I knew that I had to try this cute little balm (in strawberry- yum) and it did not disappoint. It reminded me straightaway of the EOS lip balms that were everywhere a few summers ago.

Balmi say that their lip balm provides:

♥  Protection for your lips from harmful UVA & UVB light
♥  Performance SPF15 protection as standard
♥  Combination of antioxidant-rich Vitamin E, soothing Shea Butter and Jojoba Oil to leave your lips moisturised, soft and super smooth
♥  Amazing flavour impact on your lips

My first impressions were that it smelt divine and I loved that it comes with a keyring chain. In terms of it as a balm, it is quite a thin consistency and I wouldn't rate it as anything special but the novelty factor of Balmi makes it very appealing!

Review: Stila Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick

Product

Stila Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick in Bellissima*

Price

£15

What does it claim to do?

"This creamy, full-coverage lip colour delivers intense moisture with bold, long-lasting pigment to stay in place for up to six hours of continuous wear. The comfortable texture feels weightless on lips and its colour-rich formula will not bleed or transfer. Enriched with Vitamin E and avocado oil, Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick hydrates and softens lips so they look and feel beautiful. Available in 10 shades with a mix of matte and shimmer finishes" - Stila press release

What do I think?

I recently attended a Stila event which introduced the latest additions to their range- all of the details to come in a post soon. I came away with one of these new products- their Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick in Bellissima. I was very pleased to receive this colour as it is exactly what I would go for.

The lipstick applies like a gloss and I found that applying it straight from the wand was a bit too much and it is far more effective to use a lip brush. This allows you to apply and build it up gradually as otherwise it's a bit thick and extreme! The formula does feel really moisturising and sets quickly into a matte look. You can tell that it won't budge after a few minutes after application so you need to work fast!

It didn't last 6 hours on my lips but it did stay a good while and it felt really lovely to wear. If you were wearing on a night out it would be great and you wouldn't need to re-apply. My colleague commented on the colour and said that she couldn't stop looking at my lips- which is always a good thing!

The only issue I've had with this is that I'm quite lazy with applying lipstick and lipgloss. I like to quick apply it and blend in with my finger. As this is so pigmented and lasts such a long time you need to take care when applying which would put me off using it everyday. Fantastic every once in a while however!

Would I re-purchase?

I don't think I would buy this as an everyday item, but if I was looking for a long-lasting lip colour for an occasion then I would definitely turn to this Stila lipstick range.

Review: Liz Earle Lash Definition Smudgeproof Mascara

July 26, 2012

Product

Liz Earle Lash Definition Smudgeproof Mascara*

Price

£14.50

What does it claim to do?

"Our unique mascara is water-resistant, flake-free and long-lasting, and glides on smoothly to perfectly define each lash. The specially designed brush allows you to make the most of even the shortest lashes, helping to create length and definition. Enriched with natural source vitamin E." - Liz Earle website

What do I think?

As I've posted about before, Liz Earle have launched a make-up collection and I was sent a few of their products to try. I absolutely love their Perfect Fix concealer and I have been using it every day since receiving it.

With the Lash Definition Smudgeproof Mascara I am unfortunately not convinced. I was hoping that it after it had dried out slightly it would impress more but that's not been the case. My favourite mascaras are ones such as the MUFE Smoky Lash, CoverGirl Lash Blast, L'Oreal Volume Million Lashes and L'Oreal Telescopic. I like mascaras that provide volume and length without being clumpy- I also like them to be very black and glossy.

Sadly with the Liz Earle offering I didn't see many of these results. It does provide some lengthening, and is good for separating lashes, but doesn't add any volume or anything very special really. I wore it today as was having a contact lense check and didn't want a lot of eye make-up- admittedly it looks nice for a very low key make-up look but it's just not what I look for in a mascara. It doesn't have any 'wow' and I would just describe it as a very basic product. In a nutshell I would expect more for £14.50!

Would I re-purchase?

No. Sorry Liz Earle, I still love you but this mascara just isn't a favourite!

L'Oreal Paris Summer Styling Event

July 24, 2012

A couple of weeks ago I was invited to view the latest hair styling products from L'Oreal Paris, and was also treated to having my hair styled using some of the products. I chose to have glamorous waves and loved having a hairstyle that I could never achieve myself for a few hours!

But onto the most exciting part- the products! L'Oreal Paris have some great new collections and products out for the summer. Here is a quick rundown on the products I was introduced to:

Elnett Satin Lumiere

This is the hairspray that we all know and love, with some added zing. Described as an illuminating hairspray, it has an anti-dullness action and light micro-reflectors to give hair a magic glow. The Elnett Satin Lumiere has an RRP of £3.56

Extraordinary Oils

L'Oreal have introduced two new hair oils to their range which have a blend of six precious flower oil extracts (including one called Dog Daisy Oil which interested me!). One is designed for coloured hair and the other for all hair types. I have been trying the version for all hair types and have been applying before I wash my hair to give it a moisture boost- so far I am really pleased with the results and it's left my hair really silky.

There are so many ways that you can use this hair oil (and other hair oils too!) from applying pre-shampoo, to putting in your hair before going to bed and rinsing in the morning to applying after blow-drying and using as more of a serum. Just remember to use it in small amounts and add more as you need it. Both RRP for £9.99

Hair Expertise Serums

I posted about the Hair Expertise products a while ago, and there are two additions to the collection. The first is the EverSleek Smoothing Anti-Frizz Serum which is designed for frizzy, overworked hair and the second is the EverPure Colour Care Shine Serum which is for coloured and frizzy hair. As with the rest of the range, these are non-sulphate products.

Studio Line Matt & Messy

The new products in the Studio Line are more unisex and include a Shine-Free Salt Spray, Shine-Free Fibre Paste and Shine-Free Sponge Putty. L'Oreal claim that these products deliver a shine-free, natural texture to any look whilst leaving hair with a unique matt finish. I love shine in my hair (unless it's a greasy shine- no no) so don't think these are the products for me but the boys (my boyf and flatmate) have been giving them a whirl and seem to be enjoying! Each product has an RRP of £3.56.

Elvive 60 Second Saviours

There are three 60 Second Saviours to choose from in their new collection. These claim to deliver the power of an intensive treatment in just 60 seconds to transform the fibres of hair damaged by sun, sea and sand. There is the Elvive Nutri-Gloss Crystal (which I featured in this post) and is amazing because it sparkles, then there is the Elvive Colour Protect, obviously for coloured hair to protect colour intensity and finally there is the Elvive Triple Resist which works to really restore the hair and to make it feel strong and nourished. Each 60 Second Saviour has an RRP of £4.99.

Marc Jacobs Dot Fragrance

July 22, 2012

Meet the latest addition to the Marc Jacobs Fragrances Collection - Dot. I am a huge fan of the Marc Jacobs fragrances- especially Daisy. I have had a bottle on my dressing table since it was released and even carry the Eau So Fresh purse spray in my handbag.

Dot is described on the Marc Jacobs website as carrying "...a lush, effervescent floral scent perfect for every eclectic, spontaneous female. Features top notes of red berries, mid notes of jasmine and base notes of driftwood for a bold, feminine scent."

I LOVE the look of Dot. Marc Jacobs always make the cutest perfume bottles and this is no exception- I definitely want to add this to my collection (fingers crossed I like the scent)! Have you tried Dot?

New Jergens moisturiser range

July 20, 2012

Jergens are currently celebrating their re-launch with a new range of body moisturisers, uniquely created to make a beautiful difference for your skin. I have always thought of Jergens as one of those 'trusted brands' and have tried their moisturisers in the past. I was sent the Ultra Healing moisturiser to try and although I don't suffer from dry skin, I could tell a real difference after using it. It absorbed quickly into my skin and it felt so soft afterwards. Thumbs up! The range launched this month and prices start at £3.49.

The new range includes:

Jergens Daily Moisture – For 24 hour hydration, enriched with Silk Proteins and a citrus extract blend. Transforms dry, rough skin into smooth, visibly healthy skin

Jergens Ultra Healing –  A deeply hydrating moisturiser with Vitamins C, E and B5. Penetrates below the surface of extra dry skin, making it looked quenched and moisturised.

Jergens Soothing Aloe – With Aloe and Cucumber, this fast-absorbing moisturiser quickly replenishes moisture and soothes dry skin caused by the elements, leaving skin looking and feeling beautifully refreshed.

Jergens Skin Firming – Go beyond mositurisation with visibly firmer skin. With its exclusive Firm Perfecting™ complex, containing collagen and elastin, this moisturiser tightens skin and reduces the appearance of cellulite.

Jergens Cocoa Butter – A rich Cocoa Butter body moisturiser that gives your dry, dull skin a radiant sheen that makes it look and feel instantly more beautiful.

Jergens Original Beauty Lotion – This classic Cherry-Almond scent lotion moisturises dry skin, leaving it looking and feeling softer for 24 hours resulting in skin that is beautifully soft.

Jergens are also running a great competition on their Facebook page where you can win your own photoshoot and appear on the pages of Marie Claire. Simply go to their Facebook page, upload a full length photo of yourself and tell Jergens which part of your body (arms, legs or shoulders) you are most proud of and why.

Sunday Pampering

July 15, 2012

I have managed to get through the whole of Winter without suffering from a cold but sadly one has struck me down in the middle of July- I blame the terrible British weather this summer! I have been feeling very sorry for myself this weekend although have just had a dose of Day Nurse and that has made me feel a lot better- I swear by that stuff!

To make me feel better- and to give my skin some TLC I decided to have a mini pamper session using the products above. I removed my eye make-up with the Nivea Daily Essentials Gentle Cleansing Lotion and then gave my skin a good cleanse with the Soap & Glory Peaches and Clean (only purchased yesterday so I'll do a full review when I've tried it a few times- first thoughts are that it smells divine).

I then used the Sanctuary 5 Minute Thermal Detox Mask. This mask is really lovely and great for relaxing- as you apply a layer of the mask it heats up (hence the thermal effect) and warms the skin whilst giving a deep cleanse. I left it on for 5 minutes and then removed using a muslin cloth and warm water. Once the mask had been taken off, I used the Liz Earle Instant Boost Skin Tonic* to tone my skin. I don't use toner everyday but this one is so soothing that it forms an essential part of a DIY facial.

The penultimate step to my pampering session was to apply my little travel sample of the Liz Earle Skin Repair Moisturiser* for dry/sensitive skin. I don't have particularly dry skin but as I haven't been well I wanted to give it some extra moisture and this is brilliant for a good injection of that. It leaves your skin so soft and lasts till the morning- I highly recommend this. And finally I dabbed some of the Balance Me Wonder Eye Cream (free with Glamour this month) under my eyes.

My skin now feels super clean, soft and refreshed. It's great to take some time to give your skin some TLC and it really doesn't take long. Which products do you love to use when pampering yourself?

June Favourites: My Top Three

July 07, 2012

♥ Liz Earle Brightening Treatment Mask - I love this mask. You only need to use it on your skin for a minute before removing with a muslin cloth which makes it a really quick and easy mask to use when you fancy a quick skin boost. I always notice that my skin is more radiant after using it too.

♥ Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion - Even though we've not had much of a summer so far, we've had some really humid and muggy days. At the end of one of these days my eye make-up is literally sliding off and so this eyeshadow primer is essential for keeping my eyeshadow in place and not creasing! This mini version came with my Naked palette.

♥ Benefit Coralista - I tried taking a photo of this Benefit blush with the lid on but it was so tatty that I couldn't bear to post it. I absolutely love this blush but it's downfall is the cardboard packaging and how quickly it wears! Nevertheless, this is one of my favourite blushers ever and so perfect for summer months.

Glamour August Issue- Balance Me Skincare freebies

July 05, 2012

Glamour Magazine have followed up their brilliant Benefit freebie issue with another set of great products to try from Balance Me Skincare.

You can choose from 4 Balance Me Skincare freebies:

Balancing face moisturiser - worth £11
♥ Wonder eye cream - worth £11
♥ Pure skin face wash - worth £11
♥ Rose Otto Intensive lip salve - worth £12

I subscribe to Glamour and so received the Wonder eye cream with my magazine. I've been using it for a few days and although I'm yet to see any real effects it feels lovely to apply and I adore the packaging. I'm going to look out for the face wash and the lip salve as would like to try both of them.

Which product will you be choosing if you buy the magazine?

Lauren Luke - Don't Cover Up Domestic Violence

July 02, 2012

Lauren Luke was one of the first YouTubers that I started watching so I was really interested to see that she was working with the domestic violence charity Refuge in a campaign called 'Don't cover it up'. The campaign encourages women to break down the silence which so often masks abuse and to reach out for help from specialist organisations such as Refuge.

The video, which you can view here, is really unsettling and ends with a shocking statistic that 65% of women who experience domestic violence keep it hidden. Two women are killed by a current or former partner every single week in England and Wales and one women in four will experience domestic violence at some point in her life. The stats are alarming and emphasizes how important it is to encourage women to talk to someone and find help.

Viewers are encouraged to share the video with friends, text to donate to Refuge, and sign a petition which Refuge has launched with Red magazine, calling for more life-saving domestic violence services across the country.

Japonesque at HQHair.com

July 01, 2012
I have heard more and more about Japonesque over the past few months- all good things and especially positive blog posts about their brushes. HQhair.com has recently launched a range of iconic Japonesque products that were previously unavailable in the UK and also worth mentioning that when you spend over £10 on Japonesque products you will get a free gift- lovely! I was sent a few products from the range so wanted to share with some of my initial thoughts.

Japonesque describe themselves as a brand 'designed with the professional in mind'. Their products are precision crafted and use the highest quality materials which is why they are so popular with makeup artists and beauty professionals.

♥  Japonesque Travel Lux Bronzer Brush RRP £36 - link

"Ideal for achieving a flawless sun-kissed glow, the unique soft, large dome shape creates a beautiful diffusion wherever colour is desired". This brush is the softest brush I have ever used- it's absolutely gorgeous and such a pleasure to use. I used it to apply my bronzer last night and as it claims, it was fantastic for buffing in the colour and leaving a natural glow. The hype around Japonesque brushes is definitely justified although would I pay £36 for this brush? Is yet to be decided.

♥  Japonesque Beautiful Eyes Touch Up Tube Set RRP £11.75 - link

"The sleek set includes an Angled Brow Brush for brow touch ups, a Flat Eyeliner Brush for precision eyeliner application, a Shadow Fluff Brush for colour diffusion, and a Eye Smudger Brush for smudging edges and softening lines". I have been impressed with the brush quality of this set- the eye smudger and shadow fluff brushes are particularly good and made applying and blending my eyeshadow really easy. My MAC 239 is my usual eyeshadow brush of choice but this definitely competes for the title. It's a great travel set and a good option if you want to get a taste of the Japonesque brushes.

♥  Japonesque Go Curl Eyelash Curler RRP £10 - link

"This compact eyelash curler creates deep sweeping lashes. The easel back flips down for the leverage needed to produce a long-lasting curl. The open cage design won't pinch your outer lashes". I'll be honest, eyelash curlers scare me slightly. I've tried a few of the traditional looking curlers (you know the ones- that look like an instrument of torture) and found it all a bit too much- it also doesn't do much for my lashes. Maybe I'm using it wrong. The Japonesque Eyelash Curler is a far more attractive device and my eyelashes felt a lot safer when using it. Again, it didn't do that much for my lashes but that's nothing new!
