Organic Surge Orange Flower Toner

February 27, 2014
I have a somewhat flaky relationship with toners. Some days I use one, some days I don't - it's definitely not one of my skincare staples.

Despite this I was keen to try the Organic Surge Orange Flower Toner* as it just sounded really quite lovely. It's a super gentle toner which is suitable for all skin types and refreshes the skin without stripping it. The key natural ingredients are orange flower water (renowned for its healing, anti-ageing and skin regenerating properties), Centella asiastic (I know, it rolls off the tongue! This is a plant that naturally repairs the skin) and Aloe vera (to naturally calm and moisturise the skin).

You use this as you would with any toner - just apply to a cotton wool pad and sweep over your face. I thought that the scent might be a bit too 'orange' but it's incredibly subtle and smells divine. I really love using this toner. My skin has been a little sensitive recently and this is really soothing and feels lovely. It's a pleasure to use and probably the best toner that I've come across.

Even better is that it's priced at a very reasonable £6.50 and can be bought from www.organicsurge.com.

Metcalfe's Charity Topcorn

February 25, 2014
I wanted to post about a lovely partnership today between CLIC Sargent and Metcalfe. Metcalfe are extremely popular for their popcorn snacks- I know because I see them almost everyday in our office! Everyone is loving a bit of popcorn at the moment. The salt and sugar version has to be my favourite.

So Metcalfe have pledged to raise over £30,000 for CLIC Sargent over three years and to celebrate the partnership, Metcalfe's skinny has rebranded their classic Sea Salt popcorn to 'CLIC Sargent Salt', with every pack sold making a donation to the charity. CLIC Sargent is the UK's leading cancer charity for children and young people, and their families and the funds raised through the partnership could pay for vital services. The partnership will also raise huge awareness of a brilliant charity which I think is really fantastic.

The packs cost 70p for a small pack and £1.59 for a larger one and you can find them in most supermarkets now. I tend to buy mine from Pret.  For more information on the partnership you can visit www.clicsargent.org.uk/popcorn. Definitely an excuse for a movie night!

Toni&Guy Professional Straightener

February 20, 2014
A few weeks ago, Chris stumbled to bed (tired, not drunk) and stepped on my GHDs. They snapped in half and I could have cried - my beloved six year old GHDs were no more!

After a few weeks of curling my hair every day I was very happy when Tony&Guy introduced me to their hair wardrobe of tools which included their Professional Straightener* - hooray! My hair was saved.

The Tony&Guy straighteners use ceramic tourmaline technology which sounds quite fancy and is basically the professionally preferred option as it uses high heat but preserves hair's natural moisture without making it frizzy.

It's really simple to use- you just turn on and select the temperature you want (it goes up to 230C) and it heats up in seconds. It also has auto shut off which is really handy as I am always panicking that I've left my straighteners on! (I know most have auto shut off these days but I haven't had shiny new straighteners in years). I've found it just as good as my GHDs in terms of performance although they aren't as slim and ergonomic and my biggest niggle with it is that when you hold the straighteners your hand covers the temperature buttons which is a bit inconvenient.

The Tony&Guy Professional Straighter is usually £69.99 from their website but they currently have 20% off so you can buy it for £49.99! Click here to go to their site.

La Roche-Posay Effaclar Duo (+)

February 18, 2014
I don't think you could have missed the hype around the La Roche-Posay Effaclar Duo. It was raved about on every blog and YouTube channel and became a must-have for great skin. I gave the product a whirl and it was going well until one night my skin had a funny reaction to it and went red and irritated (full review here).

It didn't put me off trying the new offering from La Roche Posay with their Effaclar Duo (+) - or plus. The key difference between this and the original is that this enhanced versions works to help spots and acne, while also caring for the affected areas after the spot has gone and reducing the redness and marks that are left. My skin is terrible after I've had a spot and it takes months and months to fade so this is perfect for helping with this.

You apply it in exactly the same way (a thin layer over your skin each night) but this works harder for you as a product. I haven't had a reaction from this yet so wonder if the reaction to the Effaclar Duo was a blip- and it has really helped with my red marks and overall skin appearance. I neglected to use it this week as I've been so busy and I can tell a difference.

The Effaclar Duo (+) costs £11.62 from Boots and you can find out more on the La Roche Posay website.

Love Me Beauty - February 2014 Box

February 15, 2014

The February box from Love Me Beauty* has a Valentine's Day theme- as you can imagine. The box came filled with red tissue and also included a mystery product which I was quite excited about. I do like the choice of three menus that you have with Love Me Beauty but everyone loves a surprise too!

In my box for this month I received:

Percy & Reed Dry Conditioner (RRP £12) - 'Give your hair a healthy softness and shine, without the H2O. Percy & Reed's fab conditioning formula reduces damage caused by brushing as well as adding gorgeous, glossy shine to even very dry hair'

♥  La Claree Gentle Cleansing Milk (RRP £15) - 'Concentrated in antioxidant plant assets, its texture is smooth, soft and non-greasy. It cleans and eliminates traces of make-up and impurities, while protecting the hydrolipidic film of the skin. The cleansing milk leaves skin feeling hydrated with comfort and brightness'

Dr Bragi Age Management Moisturiser (RRP £15) - 'This versatile facial moisturiser helps to reduce the signs of ageing by fighting the effects of environmental stress. It prevents the breakdown of collagen and supports optimal cell function.'

Bakewell Soap Company Multi-Purpose Pocket Balm in Lavender and Lemon (RRP £3.95) - 'Soothing hydration for lips, hands, nails and body. With oils rich in Omega 3 and 6- essential for health skin and packed with vitamins and anti-inflammatories this pocket-sized balm is perfect for moisturising on the go!'

Mystery Product- this is the Art Deco Hydra Lip Booster which was one of the hero products from previous boxes and aims to provide lips with a trace of colour and wonderful shine.

The products I am most excited about in this box are the Percy & Reed Dry Conditioner, the La Claree Cleansing Milk and the Bakewell Soap Company Pocket Balm. I have had a quick try of the dry conditioner and it smelt lovely and did seem to freshen up my hair. I use dry shampoo almost every other day so will probably be adding this to my dry hair regime!

I love trying cleansers and so am looking forward to trying this, especially as I've not heard of the brand before. I really enjoy using cleansing milks and have just run out of my Nivea cleanser so this has arrived at a good time!

The Bakewell Soap Company balm is one of those really handy products to have around- I will be using it on my lips, hands and cuticles to get me through this terrible weather at the moment!

I also wanted to mention about a competition that Love Me Beauty are running in collaboration with Visit Scotland. They are offering the chance to win a luxury break to the Outer Hebrides and you can enter here if you are interested!

You can subscribe to Love Me Beauty here- boxes are £10 plus P&P each month.

Pureology Hydrate Shampoo and Conditioner

February 09, 2014

I don't usually spend a lot on shampoo and conditioner but I decided to treat myself to the Pureology Hydrate shampoo and conditioner after seeing rave reviews from other bloggers - namely Essie Button.

Pureology provides sulphate-free haircare products and has a range for every hair type. The hydrate range is formulated for dry, colour-treated hair and has three key ingredients; ZeroSulfate which is a salt-free, colour preserving formula derived from coconut, corn and sugar, natural plant extracts including peppermint, sage and rosemary and a signature aromatherapy blend with peppermint and corn mint essential oils.

Their products may be on the pricier side but you only need to use a small amount which means it will last a long time. I used a 10p piece of both the shampoo and conditioner and it was all my hair needed. The shampoo produced a fantastic lather (something sulphate-free products aren't usually great at) and smelt amazing.

I have been so impressed with the results- as soon as I'd dried my hair I could tell a huge difference. My hair was so soft and shiny, and my highlights looked far more vibrant. I think I am going to be buying these products forever more (annoyingly for my bank balance) and would like to try some of the products specifically for highlighted hair next time.

Have you tried anything from the Pureology range?

    Make Up Storage

    February 06, 2014
I saw this piece of make up storage on Amelia's blog and instantly put it on my Christmas wishlist. For the past few months I've kept my everyday make-up in a Benefit make up bag and it just doesn't look as neat and tidy when plonked on my set of drawers. I also realised that I was using the same products rather than switching them up a bit.

This piece of storage comes as two pieces - the smaller piece on the top can be lifted off so handy if you just want to use that for everyday items. I prefer to keep it all together and find that it can house a perfect amount of products.

There are two small drawers and two larger, and then the piece on top has four sections- including one that holds 12 lipsticks/similar sized products (I've got a mini highbeam and porefessional in there).

It's made me try more of my make up rather than sticking to my favourites and also looks very lovely so I am very much enjoying this! Mine was a Christmas present and bought from Amazon here for £33.99 - I think the price has gone up though!

Organic Surge Overnight Sensation Night Cream

    February 03, 2014
I really like Organic Surge products and this has been no exception. Their Overnight Sensation Night Cream* aims to restore, revitalise and rehydrate all skin types. It is enriched with organic rose geranium essential oil and lots of intensive moisturisers to restore skin while you skin.

It is quite a heavy formula but doesn't feel at all heavy on the skin. It feels nourishing and rich but absorbs quickly into the skin. It's more of a product for winter because of the essential oils and richer feel, but is perfect for those cold nights when your skin is needing a burst of moisture.

For a night cream, this offering from Organic Surge is really reasonably priced at £8.99 for 50ml and you can buy it from www.organicsurge.com.

    January Favourites: My Top Three

    February 02, 2014

I have mostly been loving nail care products in January but wanted to vary my top three a little so have chosen my very top nail product and two other make-up items that I've been loving. So without further ado...

♥ MaxFactor False Lash Effect Fusion Mascara - Last month I very sadly ran out of my CoverGirl Lash Blast Mascara and so wanted to get the next best thing that was available in the UK. I decided to give the MaxFactor Falsh Lash Effect Fusion a try and this is great. It gives volume, length and lovely long lashes.

♥ O.P.I Matte Nail Envy - I raved about this in my nail regime post here so won't rant on too much but this has made a huge difference to my nails. It's made them stronger and far less prone to breaking. It's all made them grow super quick. I think I'm going to be repurchasing it for a long time!

♥ Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain - I bought a couple of these last month and quickly fell in love. This particular shade is 005 Crush and it's a berry colour. I usually find dark lipsticks a bit intimidating but these stains are perfect- so easy to apply and they last for ages too. I want to buy so many of the new matte and lacquer shades!
