Our Bathroom - Before and After

March 30, 2014
Last September, Chris and I bought our first flat - a two bedroom place in South East London. The flat has needed some work doing on it as the previous owner had not taken the best care of it so it's a bit of a project place. We have now almost finished two out of the five rooms so I thought I'd share our bathroom and what we've done on it.

The main problems with the bathroom when we moved in were the position of the sink (so close to the bath!) and it just generally looked tired and in need of some TLC. It had a very old dusty radiator running next to the sink and the side of the bath was falling apart. It was just generally uninspiring!

In progress

Here are some pictures of the work in progress. Chris and my Dad removed all of the bathroom tiles and we could quickly see that we needed a professional in to sort out the walls! While the builders were in we asked them to do most of the bathroom work and we did the decorating.

The best pictures of the lot - the end result! We decided to move the sink to a much more convenient place (it's on the left as you come in, just before the bath) and it opened up the bathroom space really well. We replaced the toilet and sink with a new set from Victoria Plumb but decided to keep the bath and just fit a new tongue and groove bath panel to it which we bought from Wickes. We also bought Westminster sink and shower taps from Homebase which I absolutely love.

We decided to get metro tiles for the bathroom which we think we'll also use in the kitchen and went for light laminate flooring. We wanted to keep the room as light and bright as possible (as there is no window in the room) which is why we also got 6 spotlights installed.

I think our favourite feature has to be the Victoria style radiator/towel rail. I love how this looks in the bathroom. The final touches came from a canvas print from Sainsbury's home (I love their home stuff!), a cabinet from my parents and a lovely mirror from IKEA for a bargainous £15.

We really love how it looks now and there is nothing better than running a big bubble bath and relaxing in there! We just need to put a shower mount on the wall and it will be perfect!

Organic Surge Brightening Hot Cloth Cleanser

March 22, 2014
I received some exciting news from Organic Surge this month. They are launching their first ever anti-ageing range, Organic Surge Extra Care, which combines high quality natural and organic ingredients to treat the skin where it needs it most.

The full line-up will be revealed in May but the first product is launching now – the Organic Surge Brightening Hot Cloth Cleanser. This is the hero product of the range and the brand's first Hot Cloth Cleanser.

It works as any other hot cloth cleanser does. Simply massage into dry skin (it's fine to use on eye make up too) and then wipe away with a cloth soaked in hot water. A little goes a long way and I find that two small pumps is more than enough - the product feels rich and luxurious on my skin and feels so moisturised after I've finished. It has a lovely subtle scent- a blend of aloe vera, shea butter and cocoa butter.

I am a huge fan of the Liz Earle cleanser and was looking to re-purchase (for probably the tenth time!) however this offering from Organic Surge is really really lovely. I have only been using it for a week but my skin has been loving it and I am finding it so enjoyable to use. Even better is that it is priced at a really reasonable £12.50 for a 150ml pump.

It can be purchased online from and will also be launching in retailers soon which include John Lewis, Peter Jones, Ocado, Waitrose and Coop.

Love Me Beauty - March 2014 Box

March 16, 2014
It's Love Me Beauty box time! Here is one of the menu offerings from their March edition and it's probably been the box I've been most excited for.

In my box for this month I received:

Nip+Fab Viper Venom Eye Fix (RRP £14.95) - 'A refreshing eye gel in a cooling roll-on applicator to smooth the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles around the eye area'

The Vintage Cosmetic Company False Lashes in Gracie (RRP £6) - 'These lashes are natural enough to be worn during the day or at night to give more definition to your evening makeup look.'

♥ BlanX White Shock Toothpaste (RRP full size £7.50) - 'BlanX White Shock is the only toothpaste in the world to contain ActiluX, a non-abrasive, peroxide free formula that whitens teeth all day long.'

Deep Steep Foot Stick in 'Candy Mint' (£3.60) - 'Deep Steep's Candy Mint Foot Stick contains powerful essential oils to instantly refresh as organic Shea and Cocoa Butters to restore your feet to their soft beginnings.'

Murad Pomegranate Exfoliating Mask (RRP full size £25) - 'The treatment is the perfect way to free skin from dull, dry surface cells and trapped impurities while the antioxidant-rich formula defends skin from harmful free radical damage'.

Quintessentially English Bath Salts in 'Vintage Bouquet' (RRP full size £4) - 'These soothing bath salts are made with dead sea salt and pure essential oils.'

I think I like this box so much because it includes some of my favourite types of products. I adore eye products which come in a rollerball so the Nip+Fab Eye Fix was whipped out to try straightaway. I love how easy they are to use and how cooling they feel. I have been quickly rolling this on under my eyes before bed. Not too sure of the effects yet but I am enjoying using it!

I have also been regularly using the Deep Steep Foot Stick as I go to Florida in May and want to get my feet in a more summer-like state before I get the flip flops out! This is brilliant as you just apply it onto your feet and as you apply it the essential oils start getting to work and the product melts onto your skin. Hard to explain but it's extremely moisturising. I like how you can just apply, pop on some socks and leave to work it's magic as I don't like applying foot creams and then having to wash your hands because they are covered in cream - bleurgh.

I haven't tried any of the other products but am very looking forward to trying the Murad mask and the Quintessentially English Bath Salts - adore a face mask teamed with a hot steaming bath so will be using these two together on a pamper night!

I will be giving The Vintage Company false eyelashes a whirl on my next night out and the toothpaste will be coming with me on holiday as mini sizes are so handy!

You can subscribe to Love Me Beauty here- boxes are £10 plus P&P each month.

Neom Luxury Organics Complete Bliss Candle

March 12, 2014
The rose is widely regarded as the world's most beautiful flower and it plays a big part of the Neom Organics Complete Bliss range. Each drop of rose essential oil is derived from up to 60 roses, and is blended with black pepper and lime for added warmth.

Rose is a proven mood-regulator and great for easing the tensions and stresses of the day, which is why the Complete Bliss is such a popular range for Neom. For me personally it's not my favourite of their scents as it's quite strong and floral but lovely to try something different to my usual and as with all Neom scents and products the Neom Organic Home Candle* lasts a long time and fills the room with fragrance.

Complete Bliss is one of Neom's key fragrances and you can buy it as a Candle (£39.50), Bath Oil (£32) or Body Oil (£30). They are all available from

Hello Spring!

March 09, 2014
After such a miserable few weeks of bad weather and more rain than we could imagine, I think everyone in London (and around the UK! I think it's been good weather everywhere?) was craving this weekend of beautiful sunshine and clear skies.

Both Chris and I haven't been feeling very well but we couldn't miss a few hours in the sunshine to get our fill of vitamin D. We debated what we were going to wear for a while (that's a lie- I debated) and promptly realised that I really need a spring coat. Totally not prepared. In the end my jacket was too much and I was getting warm in my t-shirt- amazing!

We went on one of favourite walks to Greenwich, cutting through Hilly Fields as we went (the park our house overlooks, you can see our place in the last photo- adore where we live!) and then had a stroll around Greenwich. It was bustling and busy with everyone making the most of the weather,

I had a strawberry milkshake as we sat and admired the Cutty Sark and then we started the walk back via a Superdrug stop to pick up the Barry M Gelly Nail Polish in Lychee - I saw that Suzie (Hello October- I discovered her yesterday and am loving her blog and YT) was wearing it in her make-up collection video and had to have. I'm trying to hold off buying any beauty products before my Florida holiday in May but this had to happen.

Anyway, in Superdrug I embarrassingly asked if I could pay with my Boots points so we moved swiftly on and headed home, also enjoying a long sit down on a bench in Hilly Fields and watching the world go by.

I hope you have managed to enjoy the sunshine?

L'Oreal Paris Fibrology Hair Range

March 04, 2014
The new Fibrology range* from L'Oreal really grabbed my attention when it launched. I first spotted it in Stylist magazine and then suddenly noticed it everywhere. It may have been the eye-pleasing packaging that caught my eye at first (I can't express how much I love the packaging- the colours work so well!) but it's claims and the reviews were intriguing.

The range runs on the tagline 'What if science could give you thicker hair than nature did?' and L'Oreal say that these products are a result of 17 years of research, 8 years of tests and 1 patented technology.

The key ingredient and secret to its success is Filloxane - 'a revolutionary patented technology proven to penetrate the hair fibre and expand it'. L'Oreal claim that hair becomes thicker and thicker after every wash and gives visible body and bounce.

The three products in the range are best used together. You just use the shampoo as normal, and then you can either use the conditioner on it's own or for an extra boost you can mix it with the Thickness Booster. This is a tube of liquid and you just mix it with the conditioner and then apply as you would normally.

I have been using this for a little while now and am genuinely quite impressed. After the first use I could tell that it had made a difference. As I dried it I could feel that my hair felt thicker and more texturised. My hair is quite thick already so the results were almost a bit much! For someone with fine hair I think this is definitely worth a try as it could work wonders.

It gave my hair more volume and bounce and definitely made a difference. Even Chris has been using it and even commented (without any prompting) that he thought it was really good - I have just asked him to elaborate and asked if it made his hair feel thicker. He just said yes. Not one for words that boy!

So yes, really like this and am very impressed. In terms of price the 250ml Shampoo is £2.99, the 250ml Conditioner is £2.99 and the 30ml Thickness Booster is £5.99 (all from Boots). Has anyone tried the hair mask? Am very tempted to give it a whirl!
